Who we are and scope

Lawvara provides a specialised jobs marketplace for legal professionals in Nigeria. This Policy applies to visitors, candidates, employers and administrators who use our website and services.

Key definitions

• Personal data: information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.
• Controller: the party that determines the purposes and means of processing personal data.
• Processor: the party that processes personal data on behalf of a controller.

Our role

For candidate accounts and site analytics, Lawvara acts as a controller. For data processed strictly on behalf of employers (e.g., applicant data submitted to a specific employer), Lawvara may act as a processor. Employers are independent controllers of candidate data they receive through postings.

Data we collect

• Account data: name, email, password, profile information.
• Professional data: CVs, education, experience, skills, bar admissions, practice areas, PQE, work preferences.
• Job data: job titles, descriptions, locations, compensation ranges, benefits and employer profile data.
• Usage and device data: log files, IP addresses, browser type, device, approximate location, pages viewed, and timestamps of your activities.
• Activity logs: We log your interactions with our platform (e.g., login/logout times, job views, applications) for security, fraud prevention, and service improvement purposes.
• Cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy.

How we use personal data

• Provide and operate the platform, including account creation, job search, applications and messaging.
• Match and recommend jobs to candidates using rule‑based and automated ranking.
• Enable employers to post, boost and sponsor jobs and to manage candidates.
• Improve safety, security, fraud prevention and platform integrity.
• Conduct analytics to improve features and performance.
• Communicate with you about updates, security notices and service‑related messages.
• With consent, send marketing communications which you can opt out of at any time.

Legal bases under the NDPA

Job data and your consent

By using Lawvara to post, upload or submit job or profile data, you acknowledge and consent to our processing of such data for the purposes of operating and improving the platform, including: indexing for search, de‑duplication, quality checks, ranking, recommendations, boosts/sponsorship visibility, and distribution to relevant users. Employers warrant they have a lawful basis to share any candidate data they upload.

Sharing of data

• With employers, when you apply to a job or explicitly share your profile.
• With service providers acting under contract (hosting, analytics, communications). We require appropriate safeguards.
• With authorities where required by law or to protect rights, safety or integrity of the service.
• In connection with a corporate transaction, subject to confidentiality and continued protection.

International transfers

Where data is transferred outside Nigeria, we implement appropriate safeguards consistent with NDPA, such as contractual clauses and risk assessments, and limit transfers to the minimum necessary for our services.

Retention

We retain personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described or as required by law. You may request deletion, subject to legal and operational limitations.
